Do I really have to turn my iPod off for this?
In exactly 24 hours, I will be sitting in the cabin of a plane next to one of God’s stranger creations and being told that I need to turn my iPod off and pay attention to the stewardess demonstrating the intricacies of seat belt fastening. Ya know, because I don’t use one everyday when I get in my car and I don’t have the first clue as to how in the world these particular dandies work. Then they’ll tell me that in case of a water landing, I can use my seat cushion for flotation! Well, fancy this: We’re not actually flying over any water cap’n! Nope, if this shit goes down, I’m using the slide on the wing. Thank God I’m good at sliding because they never have a demo for that. So frustrating.
As I hippity hop my way around the country from Grand Rapids, MI to Minneapolis, MN to Las Vegas, NV to San Francisco, CA to Medford, OR where they’ll probably be all “LOLZ! Let’s circle the airport 70 times for funs!”, I’ll be thinking of you. Mmmhm. Sure will. There’s going to be a party on my blog this week. It’s going to be so. much. fun. First, I wrote another little ditty about another adventure of Oliver and mine. It’s set to post on Monday. THEN, you have the pleasure of a tag-team blog fest from Ally and Salt who graciously agreed to guest blog for me after I begged slightly in the last post. Every girl should have friends like mine. Speaking of friends, Caroline, my partner in coffee crimes at my old job whom I speak of here from time to time, asked if she could do a guest blog! And of course, I said YES! So my blog isn’t going to die while I’m gone and I’ll be fulfilling a goal for 2010. Score times two!
At the moment, I’m impatiently waiting for my laundry to finish so I can pack. And “write blog” was on my To Do list so I thought I could knock this out while I’m waiting for that last pesky load. The cake supplies sure are a bunch of space hogs. Usually when I pack I give myself choices of outfits so in case I’m not feeling the jeans and sweater thing I can go for the jeans and long sleeve shirt thing. Well, not this time! The cake pans are being all grabby in the suitcase and I have room for a shoe and a thong. Not sure what I can do with either of those things but I can’t imagine it will be good. I’m really working hard on being decisive about wardrobe choices but how do you choose? How do *I* know what I’m going to want to wear on Friday morning for our Spa Day? Or what shoes I’m going to feel like sliding my feet into on Tuesday? What if she wants to go for a run? I’m the shittiest light packer there is. My future husband is going to hate me, ok maybe not hate me, but he will have a hissy fit when I give good arguments for why I need exactly 12 pairs of flip flops for our 10 day honeymoon!
As for hair and makeup, the results are in and it looks like I’m going to be packing both a curling iron AND my straightener! Thank you so much to everyone for voting and figuring this out for me. I really am THAT indecisive. Without further ado, here are the winners. Drum roll please…..
For the Rehearsal Dinner I will be wearing my hair:
CURLY!
For the Wedding I will be wearing my hair:
STRAIGHT WITH SWOOPY BANGS
And the makeup for both days, winning by about a mile and a half:
DARK EYES WITH ROSY LIPS
I also thought you might quite enjoy a picture of the cake trial I did last night. Missy’s cake is going to be 3 tiers with double layers of cake. This one only had 2 tiers with one layer of cake. You can imagine that hers will be massive and it’ll be held together with 11 dowels and I don’t care to think about how much butter. This one took 2 pounds. (!!!!) I’m also going to have a turntable/lazy susan/something that spins so I won’t have to stop and turn the cake while I’m piping the shingles. *whew*
So, I’m off! Time to brave the element of air. Golly gee I can’t wait! Smelly guy, here I come!
Have a fantastic week everyone! I’ll see ya in February! (When I will tell you all about a nifty award that I received and recap the wedding week and how I’m doing a body cleanse to rid myself of the holiday cookies.)
I’ll miss you!

First, that cake is gorgeous! What a talent you have. Second, have fun! Can’t wait to read all about your adventures when you return. Have a safe trip! Sounds like you’re feeling better.
Have fun!!! With your comments about air safety all I could think about was Tommy Boy! Can’t wait to hear about your adventures!
YES! I loved all those looks and voted for them and EVERYTHING!! Gosh I didn’t realize that you had to make THAT many random stops. I have never heard of anyone having to do something like that before and it sounds like the most massive of headaches.
I think I can speak for both Ally AND myself when I say that we will try our darndest to be the most funniest, most entertainingest, swingingest blog swingers ever! I’m excited to see what your friend Caroline has to say too!
Mmmm I wish I had some of that cake.
I echo Salt’s sentiment…what I could really go for right now is a big ‘ole slice of cake. Buttercream frosting anyone??
Have a great trip and I hope you are able to track down a Panera or a Starbucks (although I know you’d rather drink motor oil than their coffee) so you can check in with us. I expect you to at least be jotting down airport stories in your little black book, though.
And don’t worry…I’m the heaviest “light” traveler my husband has ever met and he doesn’t hold it against me. 4 outfits for each day and 5 for Sunday. I wish I could see you go through security with cake pans though.
Salt and I must now conference.
Uh yeah…….. so WHO’S the lucky person/people to get to eat the trial cake? Hello, yum!
Also – dude, I wish I knew when your flight got in to MN, I would LOVE to meet you, even if it was just for a few minutes!
Kallay have fun on all your layovers! Give Minnesota a great big hello for me!
We’re having one of our AHR’s there!
Enjoy your time and I can’t wait for your guest bloggers! I ♥ Lauren!! (Salt)
XOXOXO
Shelli
LOL…a shoe and a thong. Perfect for the layover in Vegas, don’tcha think?
Your trial cake looks way better than any of my main presentations. Sheesh, now I am jonesing for frosting.
Great hair & makeup choices! I reversed them when I voted…but loved them both!
Glad someone’s feeding the RSS while your gone…it might get all wilty like a few plants in my house do, when I go away.
Have a great trip…practice your effoff look for your travel companion and your cakeboss look for the pans in your suitcase.
Oh man, ENJOY YOUR BAD SELF!!!!!! You are going to have a freaking blast, i just know it!!
Good luck with the cake – the practice cake looks gorgeous!!!
