The Hungry Girl Giveaway

I have been looking forward to this post for so long I can barely type fast enough to spit it all out. Really. That’s how excited I am about giving something, anything, away. I figured you wouldn’t want my used coffee cup or a lock of my hair, (except for YOU, stalker) so I decided to wait until I found the *perfect* prize. I was hoping said prize would present itself before my 200th post, but here we are at 202 posts and that’s really okay with me.

In case you haven’t been following along for the past 202 posts, I have recently gone through some pretty major life changes. I lost my dream job offer, moved back home to Michigan, met the love of my life, *poof* pregnant (!), got married (yes. in that order. judge me. dare ya!)*poof* miscarriage (rest peacefully Baby C), *poof* just kidding, you still have twins! So, in the course of one year I went from single and almost getting the job of a lifetime in the best city ever to married with twins in Small Town, America. I’m still wrapping my head around it too. It’s okay. Take your time.

But not too much time, because I’m really excited about these next parts.

As you know, any time life upends itself and completely changes, other things have to change as well. The good news is that not all change is bad. I briefly wrote about this in my 200th post/mid year update, but we are currently closely examining and working on changing our lifestyle(s) for the better. There’s never a better time than the present to get that ball rolling so, here we are. One major category has been money. Unfortunately, I’m no longer working. I still technically have a job, but I can’t currently meet the physical demands. (e.g. Pulling a 180 lb. man out of bed to wash his pieces.) So, in the meantime, I’ve gotten creative. Am I making a sizable income? No. But I am making something and we’re getting smarter about spending. I’ve been doing things like Sponsored Tweets and where I get paid for tweeting ads. The ad only runs once, there’s no spam, gimmicks, etc. Just one simple tweet and boom, money in my pocket. I’ll take two, please. Money is money. I’ve also been doing my internet searching through Swag Bucks where I earn “Swag Bucks” and redeem for either Pay Pal cash or gift cards. There are *tons* of other prizes but these are the most useful for me. I’m essentially getting paid to do something I do on a regular basis: search the web. I even type in “Google” sometimes if the Swag Bucks search engine doesn’t provide me with the info I want/need. The other great thing about Swag Bucks is that I can shop for things I’m already shopping for and earn Swag Bucks while doing it. Sometimes it’s 2 Swag Bucks for every $1 I spend on stuff I was already going to buy. Winner Winner Healthy DINNER!

Which brings us to the portion of the giveaway called “How I Found Your Prize and Earned Money Doing It!” Swag Bucks has special offers pages where you can browse no obligation offers and earn a Swag Buck just for looking, or you can take part in another special offer and earn a crap ton of Swag Bucks. Signing up for Netflix? Earn Swag Bucks. Switching to Direct TV? Earn Swag Bucks. I signed up for a book club and earned over 800 Swag Bucks. (Which equates to almost $10 in Pay Pal cash, thanks.) I was planning on doing this anyway because I want to start collecting some more kids’ books. (Kids’ books are crazy expensive and book clubs usually have great deals.) I looked into The Doubleday Book Club because I had tried The Literary Guild before and didn’t like it. They had a decent selection so I decided to give it a try through Swag Bucks. And then I had an epiphany…. I could get my giveaway prize here!

And so I did. For the low, low price of one fifth of ninety nine cents, I present to you:

My Giveaway Prize!!!

I always thought my first giveaway would be something coffee related (since I’m an addict), but then again, I never imagined my first giveaway being around the fifth month of my pregnancy. Next time, darlings! Instead, I give you Hungry Girl 1-2-3: The Easiest, Most Delicious, Guilt-Free Recipes on the Planet. This is the most recent book in a line of cookbooks written by Lisa Lillien aka Hungry Girl. If you haven’t been to her site and are looking for healthy eating tips (and who isn’t?) you need to check her out. She is chock full of information regarding healthy eating and dieting. She’s not a professional. She’s just a girl who wanted to lose weight and was tired of eating crappy tasting diet food. Plus, she’s funny and I love a good chuckle. Why would this matter to me at almost six months pregnant? Because eventually I’m going to give birth and while it would be nature’s miracle to give birth to all of the extra fat I’ve had to accumulate to provide for two growing babies, girl please. In an effort to stay ahead of the game and not be scouring the internet with a baby attached to my boob looking for a cookbook to help with reducing my postpartum thigh cheese, I’m starting now. I’ve been slowly collecting easy to make, healthy recipes that I can turn to when I’m scrambling to make a grocery list between feedings and diaper changes. (Hey Ma! Look! I’m not procrastinating!) And because I’m SO nice, I decided to purchase not one, but two, of these books so I could share one with you. D’awwwwww. I know.

So, how are you going to get your hungry little hands on this fantastic cookbook for free? Well, hopefully you’ll win the giveaway of course! And how do you increase your chances of that? And when does this all go down?

I do LOVE The Hungry Girl! I love her so much I already have this book. But I will share my favorite go-to snack anyway because it’s soooo good!! Tortilla chips. sprinkled with fat-free shredded cheese and nuked for 30 seconds. The fat free sour cream dabbed on top. And I love black bean soup, too…..cook 2 cans of black beans, then put in a processor with salsa and blend until pureed. Top with sour cream. I have a thing about sour cream. Can you tell? ;)

Congrats on 200 ish posts!! And way to go on the Swag Bucks. I had noticed but I thought it was like a Farmville thing. *facepalm*

Aww… boo hiss. But thanks for the recipes! This is how I know you love me! :D

I have a thing for sour cream too. I can do a dollop of Daisy (or half of a carton) on just about everything! I’ve never liked beans though, is the texture like refried beans or is it more soupy? I’m sure if I combined the healthy nachos with the soup and ate it like a dip, I could manage a little better. God, I’m a wuss.

Oh man, how I love me some HG! I have another one of her books: 300 meals under 300 cals, or something like that. And my recipe is from that book:

Mmmmmmm…. butternut squash, but in a mashed potato consistency. YUM.

I’m a subscriber to your blog and follow you on the Twat.

    Gonna tweet about it shortly!

As for a recipe — I don’t do “healthy” normally, so i’ll have to be back with that one.

I love the Hungry Girl website. I’ve gotten SO many good ideas from there, so the book would be FAB..especially after I pop this guy out and have to get back to my pre baby shape!

I love my smoothies. They’re especially convenient for me as a girl on-the-go these days that they’re so quick to make yet very yummy and filling. My variations include Spinach/Banana/Strawberry with a splash of OJ and Peaches/Mango with a splash of pineapple juice.

One of my favorite healthy meals is a big pot of mixed vegetable soup. Whatever I have from the garden or CSA goes in the pot. A healthy snack I love is kale chips. Simply roasted kale leaves until they get crispy.

Oh, you know I’m all over this. I am just now getting caught up on your last three posts. This will definitely be a few part comment, since it’s 5 a.m. and I’m only one cup in, but here’s what I’ve got so far:

    I follow you on twitter.
    I tweeted the giveaway.
I have your RSS feed, but also have you on my blogroll.

Posting my fave healthy recipe should be easy…but it isn’t. I have way too many and since hubs is an on again/off again health food nut, I think I’ll share one of his faves (he’s a big guy and isn’t easily satiated, so when he loves them I know they’re good:). I’ll start with his fave salad, I call it “spinach baby” b/c when he asks what I’m making, that’s my response.

Spinach, Baby *measurements are all eyeballed, that’s how I roll*

1/2 bag of pre-washed baby spinach
    1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
3 hard boiled eggs, chopped *I prepare 6, 3 for the next day*
    1/2 carton of feta cheese
1/2 bag of real bacon bits *it’s less greasy than pan-fried*
1/2 package of fresh, whole mushrooms, sliced
1/2 can of black olives, sliced
    1/2 tomato, diced
1/2 tube package of sunflower seeds
1/2 bag of Texas Toast croutons *our fave*

Mix it up and viola! Hubs likes his drizzled w/olive oil and vinegar, I love mine with ranch b/c I’m a rebel. We eat it in one day and then I make it again the next day with all the other 1/2s…it works out perfectly. I buy this every week, we love it.

K, will let you know when I post about it!

I think I can really use this because 1) I love Hungry Girl and have been reading it for years 2) I pretty much never cook and need to start 3) when I start to cook, I need to cook HEALTHY.

I don’t know how healthy it is, but if you throw in some whole wheat pasta and use half and half I bet it would be a lot more healthy but just as delicious!

I blogged about the giveaway here:

Making a batch of Reubon soup today (to die for) but I’m sure it won’t qualify for the contest b/c of the 3 tbsp of butter and every other ingredient except for maybe the celery, kraut, broth and onion. :)

Well, since I have 5 kids, I always like to sneak vegetables into meals so they don’t know what they’re getting!! We do a make your own pizza night with a cauliflower crust (sort of like this):

They don’t even know what they’re getting intoooo and then they add the toppings themselves.
