Belly Laugh Day!

It’s Belly Laugh Day!
Did you know?
LAUGHTER:
* is contagious!
* decreases pain, which increases your immunity!
* can help fight the common cold, or anything else that ails you by boosting your immune system!
* prevents HEART DISEASE!
* relaxes your muscles. (oooommmm…giggle giggle.)
* helps strengthen relationships and social bonds. (You’ve heard the saying: “The couple that plays together, stays together!”)
* makes you more resilient. (“We’ll laugh about this later!”)
* lowers stress hormones, therefore relieving stress, anxiety, and even fear!
* helps you gain perspective and allows you to feel less overwhelmed.
* puts others around you at ease.
I grew up in a family that loves to laugh. We are always joking around, teasing each other, and generally having a good time together. Even when my grandma was having open heart surgery, we managed to laugh. Truth be told, we were obnoxious, but hours and hours of stress wouldn’t have done anyone any good.
My uncle is a “loud talker” even when it’s just you and him. Add a cellphone to that loud voice, and you have a recipe for waiting room comedy. While we were waiting for news about my grandma’s progress, he received a phone call, and rather than going out in the hall, he sat right in that waiting room and talked his little heart out. LOUDLY. For ALL to hear. We all started getting the giggles, and pretty soon were laughing hysterically. He was talking so loud, we couldn’t concentrate or think about what we were reading ourselves. So, naturally, we started reading our books and magazines out loud, politely at first, and then… not. That waiting room turned into a shouting match; my uncle talking over all of us reading our mysteries, home cleaning tips, and business articles at a deafening level. The other people in the waiting room (yes, there were others) started giggling along with us, except for this one eyebrow raising couple who were clearly too adult for us and too mature to lighten up and share a guffaw with strangers. My uncle, still none the wiser, ended his phone call, and went back to quietly reading his book to himself as if nothing ever happened.
This is the family I grew up in.
My grandma is fine, by the way. She came through her surgery with flying colors last year, and has been better than ever! Her ability to laugh at the little things has taught us to do the same. This lesson has gotten me through so many tragedies, so many disappointments, and so many bad days. All we have to do it laugh, and suddenly nothing is as bad as it seems.

Baahahahaa! That was the most ridiculous waiting room scene I have ever been a part of. It made me laugh just reading this and remembering. His face was priceless when he got off the phone and had *no IDEA* what we were laughing about. *sigh*
I adore this family…
P.S.
I was so happy to see you added the “run” post to this!!
That. Was. HILARIOUS.
